Review of “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol”

Since a DVD is no doubt on its way, I decided to review this movie to give you an idea of whether its disc version is worth buying or not. Is this Mission just as Impossible as it was 4 movies in the franchise ago? Read on to find out!

The story is really cool, if not a little cliche`. The oranization of special agents Tom Cruise and his gang work for are framed for the destruction of the Kremlin, and are disbanded by the United States government. Tom, wanting to clear his crew’s name, gathers a makeshift squad and set out to find whoever blew up the Kremlin and stop him from his next dastardly deed.  Because of this plotline, the movie has a lot of cool set pieces as the agents travel all the way from Russia to Dubai. The Kremlin’s explosion scene looks fantastic, and is one of those rare explosions in a movie that you don’t forget. The other major scenes in the movie that really stick with you are the massive sandstorm that practically FEELS real, and the climbing of the Dubai tower. I practically had a heart attack every time Tom almost lost his balance climbing that thing. Mission Impossible has definitely retained its ability to make memorable scenes.

One of the coolest things about this movie are the wacky inventions that are used. It’s like Inspector Gadget to the nth degree (yes, that’s an actual degree). Really, some of the stuff is just ridiculous. A magic wall screen that makes the people behind it invisible but nothing else? Pressure gloves that allow you to climb giant glass towers with just your hands? This is what makes a movie a movie. Insanity.

The last major thing I have to say about the movie is that the actors are fantastic. Tom Cruise is, well, Tom Cruise (which means amazing acting). I have to say, one of my favorite characters was Benji Dunn (played by Simon Pegg). He was witty, funny and overall one of the best major characters I’ve seen in a long time as far as movies go.

Overall, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is an outstanding movie. Not outstanding in a way that makes it my favorite movie ever, but outstanding because it feels exactly like what a proper action movie should be. There’s a hint of conspiracy, a lot of humor, wacky gadgets, a lot of action, a few scary scenes and all of the necessary things that make up a great film. So do I recommend you buy it when it comes out on DVD? Yes!

Mission Status: Complete
