Sound: The music for Wipeout is perfect. Beats from famous DJs such as Deadmau5 play as you zip around futuristic settings, setting a Tron-reminiscent ambiance. With that said, there are only a few tracks in the entire game so hopefully you enjoy techno mixes and the like. Sound: 7/10
Presentation: Wipeout 2048 is gorgeous, and definitely demonstrates the finer end of Vita graphical quality. Every square pixel on the screen is loaded with high resolution visual bliss, and everything looks great. Racing environments are varied as well, as some courses have you shooting up skyscrapers while others have you shooting across a futuristic baseball diamond. The hovercars themselves are pretty detailed and awesome, too. Presentation: 9.5/10
Gameplay: The gameplay is amazing, to say the least. Due to the fact that the cars are floating, the physics are different from any other racing game on the market and for that reason far more enjoyable. They’re precise, responsive and extremely difficult to master, making the core racing a blast. Even better, the controls are perfect so that none of these articulate maneuvers are ever a challenge to pull off. In races, there are also various defensive/offensive weapons that add a strategic element to the game, and makes you ask yourself in the heat of the race “do I want to heal my ship, drop the mine or take a shot at the leader?”. The courses all complement these mechanics perfectly, creating an outstanding experience overall. The ships themselves are varied into either racing or battle classes, but in the end picking the right hovercar is only a small portion of the race. Gameplay: 9.5/10
Multiplayer: Online. Frickin’. Passes. But I’m glad to announce that this is one of the rare games worth buying one for! It’s fast, furious and fun online with a multiplayer exclusive campaign that is good for pick up and play action. Loading times are fairly long online and the lack of a proper lobby system do halt the flow of gameplay fairly often, but when you find a good group the fun is endless. Your finesse in hovercar racing is put to the test and the experience is lagless to boot! Multiplayer: 9/10
Length: With an extensive singleplayer campaign, an overly large online campaign (about fifteen hours worth to elite pass), sixteen collectible ships and fifty experience levels, Wipeout offers a lot of content. Needless to say on top of that there are the “elite pass all levels” achievements that are sure to warrant a second playthrough. Length: 10/10
Overall: Wipeout 2048 gets an outstanding 9 out of 10. It’s a fantastic game and an incredible show of power for the Vita, to put it mildly. Anyone wanting a unique and substantial racing experience should definitely check this game out.
