After a wonderfully timed leak and subsequent official reveal of the teaser for Age of Ultron, it’s time for a round-table nerd discussion on the first official Avengers 2 footage.
First off, I’d like to point out that this is the first comic book movie trailer to get it right in a long time. It doesn’t give away any of the plot (asides from the obvious that Ultron is going to wreck some shit), it doesn’t show off the most stunning set pieces the movie has to offer, and yet even without these two things it still manages to be extremely captivating. This is because it stimulates extreme curiosity and speculation, which is exactly what a teaser trailer should do. Not to mention that the Pinocchio-from-hell music really tenses up the whole two minute reel as well.
So, time for speculation and predictions:
1.) The snow scenes take place as the prologue of the movie, with Hawkeye and Black Widow sent to infiltrate Baron Von Strucker’s hideout and rescue Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. This would also be when Tony first creates Ultron and sends him with Hawkeye as a sort of reinforcement. Now, these predictions are based off of two things: the post credits Winter Soldier scene and the fact that Ultron needs to be introduced almost immediately for him to have a fulfilling villain arc over the course of the movie.
2.) The Hulk somehow gets coerced (probably against his free will by some form of mind control) into fighting a potentially Ultron-controlled Hulkbuster, which may or may not be manned by Tony. You can see why the Hulk might be fighting some internal demon based off of his vain color and red-tinted eyes in the brief close-up shot of him.
3.) Ultron becomes vibraniumized and manages to break Cap’s shield, OR the broken shield sequence is a flash-foward to an Avengers 3 moment when Thanos breaks it and kills Cap. This is the wildest speculation yet, but there was a rumor quite a while ago that claimed in Age of Ultron there would be a post-credit scene which shows Tony meeting Thanos for the first time in an out-of-body experience where he sees the Avengers defeated once and for all (the ultimate Avengers 3 tease).
4.) Not so much speculation as observation, but everyone will be really pissed off at Tony Stark’s creation of Ultron and subsequent blunders, leading into Captain America 3’s potential civil war story.
5.) And lastly, the final observation. Ultron’s eyebrows are ultra-menacing, but I hope they do some final touches on his face, as right now it doesn’t look believable (looks like an animated movie villain). And there you have it! Those are my predictions and thoughts on what is to come with Avengers: Age of Ultron. And if you have any thoughts or opinions you’d like to converse over in the comments, feel free to leave one and keep the Age of Ultron idea-mill running.
